marriage situation of the foreigners in Shanghai

Shanghai belongs to China and the whole
world. With the development of Shanghai’s economic and financial,
more and more foreigners have entered this worm land. There are nearly
100000 foreigners living in Shanghai and 200000 per year come to Shanghai
temporary. The marriage situation of the foreigners in Shanghai is
the focus for us and its stabilization will affect Shanghai’s economic
construction indirectly.

The foreigners’ families in Shanghai are divided into
three types:
I. Whole family moves into Shanghai. Generally speaking,
the high management persons in the FOE and the foreign investors stay
in Shanghai to work for a very long time, they will move the whole
family to Shanghai for the life necessary. The wife will either stay
home to look after the children or husband or look for a work. Their
children study in a foreign school. This kind of family always has
house in Shanghai and their house usually in a good place, such as
Zhangjiang, Biyun, Lianyang. 30% of the foreigners’ families are such
types. As the whole family stays together and they know how to live
better, this type is stable comparatively and the rate of changing
is very low.
II. Separate in two places. This type occupies a high proportion
and 40% of the foreigners’ families are in this type, they are in
the work’s transition time. They always come to Shanghai for a temporary
work or opening market. The proportion of men is higher than the women.
They stays in Shanghai to work except Christmas, Easter Day, National
Day. As they separate with their families for a long time, the marriages
are easy to change.
III. A foreigner marries a Chinese in China, which takes 20%. There
are two kinds of foreign single people, one is spinsterhood, and the
other is divorced. As far as the cases we have met, more foreigners
have had marriage before. Most people of such type marriage choose
to register their marriage in Shanghai. Because of the difference
in opinion, environment and culture background, such marriage is less
stable than the domestic marriage.
